Meet Our Faculty and Staff

Text Box: Mrs. Phyllis Thomas, Director                  Phyllis@florencemontessori.com                                                                                                Ms. Phyllis began her career at the Montessori School of Florence in 1995 as a Primary Level teacher.  She taught a Primary Level class for nine years.  From 2005-2007, Ms. Phyllis supervised the After School Care Program.  In June, 2007, Ms. Phyllis became the Director of the school.  Ms. Phyllis has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University and has been certified by the American Montessori Society.

Ms. Karen came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2002.  Ms. Karen has numerous responsibilities - too many to name.  Although her day is busy from start to finish, she always has time to remove the splinters and loose teeth the children save for only her to do.

 Ms. Arlene came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2005, as the school librarian.  Ms. Arlene has taken on the responsibility of the internal accounting.  Ms. Arlene has a bachelor's degree in English from Francis Marion University.

Ms. Robin came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 1999.  She has taught the toddler Level Class since 2005.  Ms. Robin assisted in a Primary Level Class for five years before becoming the Toddler teacher.  Ms. Robin is a native of Florence and has received her certificate as an assistant from the American Montessori Society.

Ms. Cissy came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 1984, and has taught a Primary Level Class since beginning at the school.  Ms. Cissy has a bachelor's degree in Early childhood Education from Furman College.  She received her certification from the American Montessori Society.

Ms. Ellen has been teaching since 1999, and came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2002 as the Upper Elementary Level teacher.  She has been teaching the Primary Level since 2004.  Ms. Ellen has a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Francis Marion University.  Ms. Ellen received her American Montessori Certification.

Ms. Mary Kathryn came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2005.  She has taught at the Primary Level since 2005.  Ms. Mary Kathryn has a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Education from the University of South Carolina.  Ms. Mary Kathryn has received her American Montessori certification.

Ms. Malinda came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2001.  She has taught the Lower Elementary Level since 2001.  Ms. Malinda has a bachelor's degree in elementary Education from Clemson University and a master's degree in Reading from the University of South Carolina.  She has received her certification from the American Montessori Society.

Ms. Rachel came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2002.  Ms. Rachel has been as assistant at both the Upper and Lower Elementary Level.  She has taught at the Lower elementary Level since 2005.  Ms. Rachel has a bachelor's degree from Francis Marion University.  She has received her certification from the American Montessori Society.

Ms. Beth came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2005 as an assistant in the Upper elementary level.  Ms. Beth became the language arts teacher for the Upper Elementary Level in 2007.  Ms. Beth has a bachelor's degree in English from East Carolina University.  She is currently receiving her education for the American Montessori Society certification.

Ms. Teena came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 1999 as the Director and Upper Elementary teacher.  Ms. Teena has taught the math, science, and cultural subjects in the Upper Elementary Level since 1999.  In 2005, Ms. Teena left her position as Director to devote time to the school's curriculum.  Ms. Teena has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a master's degree in Learning Disabilities from Francis Marion University.  She has received her American Montessori Society certification.

Ms. Martina came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2001 as an assistant at the Lower Elementary Level.  In 2007, Ms. Martina began teaching German Language classes.  Ms. Martina has a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education from Coker College.

Ms. Luz came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2006, as the Spanish Language teacher.  Ms. Luz has a bachelor's degree in chemical Engineering from Northwest University in Evanston, Illinois.  She is a native of Bogota, Colombia, South America.

Ms. Susan has been teaching since 1990, and came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 1999 as the Art teacher.  Ms. Susan has a bachelor's degree in fine Arts from the University of South Carolina and in Art Education from Francis Marion University.

Ms. Brandy came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in the Spring, 2007.  She is an assistant in the Toddler class.  Brandy is a full-time student at Coker College majoring in Early Childhood Education.

Mrs. Edna came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2003.  She has been an assistant at the Primary Level and in the Before/After School Care Program.  Ms. Edna is a native of Florence and a graduate of Florence Darlington Technical College.

Ms. Evelyn came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2000.  She has been an assistant at the Primary Level and in the After School Care Program.  Ms. Evelyn is a native of Florence and a graduate of Hannah Pamplico High School.  She has received her certification as an assistant from the American Montessori Society.

Ms. Jackie came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2004.  She has been an assistant at the Lower Elementary Level, the Primary Level, and in the Before/After School Care program.  Ms. Jackie is a native of Marion County and has an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education from Florence Darlington Technical College.

Ms. Angela came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 2007.  Ms. Angela has been an assistant at the Lower Elementary Level.  She is a native of Darlington and a graduate of St. John's High School.  Ms. Angela is pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education.

Ms. Esonya came to work at the Montessori School of Florence in 1999, as an assistant in the After School Care Program.  Ms. Esonya has been the assistant in the Upper Elementary Level since 2005.  Ms. Esonya also teaches Physical Education to the Upper Elementary students.  She is a native of Florence and a graduate of Wilson High School.  Ms. Esonya received her American Montessori Society assistant's certification.
